About LeClaire
![]() |
Situated along the beautiful bend on the upper Mississippi River at the intersection of I-80, Le Claire was home to the brave river pilots who navigated the treacherous Upper Rapids between Le Claire and Rock Island, Illinois.
The City of Le Claire offers several options for visitors, featuring year-round events, including our annual Tugfest. During the Tugfest, Le Claire takes on Port Byron, Illinois, for a tug of war across the mighty Mississippi River that culminates with an amazing fireworks display. Area attractions to interest visitors include the Buffalo Bill Museum, honoring Le Claire's most famous native son, William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. The Mississippi Valley Welcome Center offers more information about the area, travel services, a scenic overlook, historical displays, Iowa products gift shop, antiques and art gallery.
Lodging options include three hotels and several bed and breakfasts that are located with beautiful river views within walking or a short distance to downtown shopping and restaurants. Area churches always welcome visitors.
Nature photographers will be delighted with the opportunities at Lock and Dam #14 to capture amazing photos of Bald Eagles in the Winter and Pelicans that call Le Claire "home" during the Spring and Summer months.
Free Internet Access is available to visitors at the Le Claire Community Library, located at 323 Wisconsin Street (3rd and Wisconsin). www.leclairelibrary.org or (563)289-4242 x 4.
